First the facts, for those of you who have just landed from a long distance flight – the sixth National Cup has landed in Ramat Hasharon, after a win over Elizur Ramla 69:65. One of the questions repeatedly asked was what's the great joy, since we are used to the joy of winning, so here's the manifold answer:
1. Three years without the cup is far too much.
2. Hunger for titles never stops.
3. Well, Ramla, you know.
4. There is NO team that deserves to rejoice more than this team. This staff, these players are so unique, so forged together and with love as their attitude, that it's just fun to praise them. That's when justice is done. The joy is double.
But why start from the end? After all, there was a game in which Ramat Hasharon led throughout except for the first few minutes and the last 4 minutes (62:62). Ambrosia Anderson with 11 points just in the 1st quarter could not be stopped and then Sheri Sam joined her with a few important shots. Yael Ahronov amazed us with 7 points at mid-game when Electra went for the brake at 38:32, even though Ramla stood on the line 19 times while Ramat Hasharon did so only twice.
In the second half of the game Electra enlarged its advantage up to 17 points with amazing minutes of Meirav Dori. But Ramla did not give up and at of the 3rd quarter the difference remained at 6 points. The last quarter was an even match. Anderson, who did not score at the 3rd quarter, came back with two critical 3-points shots, but Ramla struggled to achieve 62:62 balance with 4 minutes to play.
Orna Ostfeld took a time-out from which the Ramat Hasharon players returned with 4 consecutive points by Kia Vaughn, who got into the game due to Laine Selwyn's efforts. Ramla could not get back from this point and the buzzer found the result to be 69:65 for Electra, and the Ramat Hasharon team and red fans in joyful celebration.
"It was a team effort all the way" Said Ostfeld. "As in all our games, we are just a Team. We do not have a super star and at anytime someone else excels. We played wonderful defense and even when Ramla balanced I was not worried. I'm happy for Meirav Dori who took her first cup and lifted it up as the team's captain. I'm happy for Sheri Sam, who after her impressive career and many titles she already won, could rejoice as if this was her first title, and I'm satisfied with Yael Ahronov who's joy infects us all. I'm glad for any of my players, and I'm particularly happy for a very dear man, Deputy Mayor, Mr. Meir Doron, for whom this cup is dedicated. I'm proud to be part of this club in general and this team in particular".
Rafi Bogatin, Assistant Coach, seemed also extremely happy. "I cannot rub the smile off my face" He said after the game. "There was indeed something different this time and we all felt it. Even when Ramla got back at us we were not stressed. All the time positive energies were both on the court and on the bench. We have a special team".
Rachel Ostrowitz, the team's chairperson, chose to refer to the players saying: "Any time I look at the cup, I see our players and think how much they deserve it. We've had nice teams in the past, but this one is absolutely charming".
